There Is No Finish Line Early in the life of Nike they were in search of a symbolic visual for their first big ad campaign. "Something without uniforms and organization," said the art director. Running was big in the US then and Nike was big in running. So, without any more of an idea than that, I set out to see what I could find, despite the fact that the calendar said January. Seattle's Greenlake was a mecca for runners. I caught a partially sunny day and there were some runners panting their way around the small lake. I got one. This shot became the visual theme for their campaign.
